Performance Tuning

We have a 2017 Pace Arrow LXE equipped with a Cummins 340 Turbo.

I've read that this engine can be tuned (chip?) resulting in an additional 60-70 HP.

Has anyone heard of or experienced this?

Thanks!

What engine do you have? There are several options out there. You will need to add Exhaust Gas Temperature gage and a Boost gage. The EGT gage will keep you from melting pistons.

I imagine his is an 6.7 liter ISB. There's not a lot of headroom on them..

IMHO, and my limited experience tuning 4 or 5 diesel trucks WAY over their tranny specs, the only time the tranny limitations should be a concern is when under really high load like full throttle startup.... if you are judicious with the throttle during those times, you should be good...

Yeah, I generally agree. Alisons are prob rated at full engine torque for at least 100K miles.. probably 200K so you wont hurt it by just a 20percent boost used 20 percent of the time.. but I would still monitor trans temps and change fluid 2x as often if uprated..

Do you really want to task your engine and tranny?
Engines $30k, trans 10k?
How much are the mods?
Will they void the 2 warranties?
My 380 hp pulls hills well.
Your coach is lighter.

I took my coach to Redlands Truck and RV, they chipped it. Gained HP, toque and MPG also runs much better.😉

Wildebill suggested to get a pyro and boost gauge. He is right IMO. With the mods you will have to drive hills, headwinds and higher speeds watching those gauges nearly all the time. The EGT can go through the roof real quick with aftermarket mods. You are in a 15ton non-aerodynamic brick. Enjoy the ride and leave it alone. I have seen many many Cummins engine parts from the ISB series where pistons are melted and ring lands are squashed resulting in destroyed bores and metal all through the engine yet these engines stock regularly do over 500,000miles in pickup truck configuration. Good luck with whatever you do. I left mine alone and grind up the steep mountain passes CA - AZ at about 45mph over the top. I am with the semi's and don't care a bit.

I've seen this in the pre 2008 that have not been modified, not in the newer diesels.

You asked and you were given good advise. Do what ever you want.

This month's motorhome magazine has an article about tuning a v-10 motorhome.

The OP has a diesel so how is that going to help him?

well if you can't figure it out.... was it something we said or you just reading in an argumentative attitude? kidding on my side

but just trying to counter the typical arguments against it about don't 'hurt' your engine or warranty or ....

just showing that a motor home publication is not against tuning...
