There was an article in one of the rv magazines about propane injection a few years back. There are some benefits to be gained, increased mileage being one of them. Cost is about $2K for installation. Lots of reading material found by Googling "diesel propane injection".

hate to open an often unpopular can of worms, but have you considered hydrogen? As in browns gas generated by electrolisis?

My buddy put it on his F250, swears by it, and claims 20mpg hwy pulling a 24ft fifth wheel!

I installed Powershot 2000 to two diesels I had (Well, one powershot that I moved to the second diesel). It did make a positive difference in both power and economy. One engine was an Isuzu 3.9 and the other a GM 6.5. I'll probably add it to my Cat when I get around to it. Powershot told me to send it back to them and they would at no charge change the settings for the Cat C 7 engine. I did the installation so cost was significantly lower than the $2K mentioned above. Check them out on the net.

For the initial cost involved I would consider changing injectors and doing some fuel and electronics tuning on the ISC. There are dozens of different combinations by many companies that work really well on the 8.3 that don't require the maintenance of refilling propane all the time.

Propane injection sounds like a heck of an idea to me. My 230Hp '94, 32' Monaco is grossly under powered. Just reducing the sooty exhaust would be a big plus. The added torque would be a bonus. My propane tank is near 1/3rd the capacity my diesel capacity and should be a good match for the Power Shot system.

Welcome to the Forum!

Don't know about propane injection but your engine is the C8.3 mechanical forerunner of the ISC and this may have some impact on the degree of difficulty.

Could even be simpler as the C8.3 does not have any electronics and is a 12 valve vs. the 24 valve ISC.

Keep us posted as to what you find out with these diesel prices headed north.

The 5.9L 12 valve would an easier conversion for sure. I am currently seeking reasonable priced Propane injection "kit".

I would prefer a used MSD/Superchips unit that interfaces with a laptop for measuring boost, propane flow and rpm. I just missed one for $200 a couple days ago.

Install it myself and crank down the Propane injection flow rate and start measuring performance. The last detail would be a differential fuel flow rate gauge. I'd like to build one of those too.

Then Hydrogen injection... ha.
