I have got to replace my ac belt but it looks like I will have to remove the fan to get the belt on. Is there any tricks to getting this job done.

You must have the ISC engine. My ISB allows me to change the AC V belt without removing anything else. You may be referring to the serpentine belt which might run the AC compressor on your engine. I believe that there are no case where the fan has to be removed to change the serpentine belt.

There were many ISBs and some ISCs where a belt that was too small to fit across the fan blades was installed by Freightliner. The normal tell-tale sign is that the adjustment screw for the compressor is mounted underneath the compressor, not straight up and down beside it.

I struggled a couple of weeks with the problem and then a talk with Freightliner Custom Chassis tech support got me the engineering diagram for the compressor adjustor. When I mounted the adjuster correctly, I found out that the belt was now about 2 inches too short. I took the old belt to NAPA and, having measured the exact distance around the engine pulley and the compressor pulley, bought a belt just like the original about about 2" longer. It has worked fine for 5 years and is about to be replaced again.
