This may seem like a silly question so please be kind as I am new to the diesel motorcoach world. Rotella T 15w40 diesel motor oil has been recommended to me by my dealer for use in my Cummins diesel engine. The Rotella T motor oil I find on the store shelf does not say "diesel" on it. It says, Rotella T, Triple Protection Heavy Duty Motor Oil. I'm assuming this is the motor oil my dealer is recommending, however it is confusing as I find other brands that say "diesel" motor oil on them. Somebody help the newbe

Go by the API symbol. You should find a donut with the API CJ symbol on it - if it has this, it's a diesel engine oil.

I run Rotella in my Cummins, lawn mowers and motorcycles. Some Sam's and Wal-mart sell it in 2.5 gallon jugs for $53. Best deal out there.

Rotella T is, IMHO, the best oil for anything with an engine. I have used it for many years in combines, tractors, cars, lawnmowers, trucks and now my motorhome. It is a fine, top of the line oil. all just my experience.

I use Rotella T Triple Protection 15W40 in my Cummins ISL and in my Onan generator. Look at the back of the container and it wiil show the oil meets the specs of Cummins, CAT and other diesel engines.

I use Rotella T Triple Protection 15W40 just as Norm does. It's been around awhile and well used with no problems.

IMHO Rotella T is the greatest motor oil for gas and diesel that is made. 485,000 miles on Peugeot TD, 165,000 miles on Chevy C/K 3500 TD... never missed a lick !!! Sam's clubs and WallyWorld are indeed the places to buy !
Stay safe... enjoy your travels

I don't think I have ever seen a container of Rotella T with "diesel" on it.

Yup, I run it in my Cummins ISC and my Duramax and think it's the best out there. I do run synthetic Rotella T in the DMax.

Rotella does not say "diesel" on the container, but lists the appropriate categories such as CJ-4, etc. I've used it in my Cummins, Duramax and Yanmar boat engine, here's a link with explanations: CJ-4 Service Category Description

As Rusty pointed out, the API symbol will tell the story. Long story short, the "C" stands for compression ignition, and the "S" stands for spark ignition. Ignition meaning the 3 stroke of the 4 stroke engine. Intake, compression, ignition, exhaust.
I use Rotella in my Dodge. I've got 80,000 miles on it, and it doesn't use any oil between changes.
Enjoy your travels,

Rotella still has the zinc compound that you still need in a flat tappet motor. New oil's don't

Ummmm.....actually, ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) concentration levels for all the major CJ-4 oils (which Rotella is) are very similar.

Ya, but they took it out of regular motor oil. I'm sure different oils have it but I know Rotella does. It's a guessing game .
