sometimes while trying to start, it will only click. takes 5-10 tries before engaging. Is it time to replace the starter? if so is it a do it yourself thing?
1999 cummins 5.9 275. We have only had the RV for a month or so. all new batteries.

It's common in those year Cummins for the solenoid internal contacts to erode to the point of no contact. The fix is to replace those contacts with new ones - there are heavy duty aftermarket versions available at very reasonable cost that will allow the solenoid a much longer lifespan.

As previously stated, the solenoid appears to be a "weak link" in this engine (googled info). Lots of rebuild kits available @ $40. +/- $10. so the question is "can you get to the starter" where the solenoid will normally be mounted on top?
