Tilting an 8.3l engine

Has anyone ever seen a cummins 8.3l engine that had been rotated about 36 degrees - either to the right or the left? I am going to do a skoolie conversion as soon as I find the right bus - my requirement is a re pusher with an 8.3. Problem is, the engines are pretty tall. I was thinking if I could rotate the engine 36 degrees, I might pick up 8 to 10 inches of room in the cabin by being able to lower the top of the rear doghouse.

You might look into a dry sump if they make one for your engine. This might save you some clearance. Tilting a motor that wasn’t designed this way might pose a problem with oil scavengeing.

Check with cummins on that it seems to me they used a rotated engine in some boat applications and years ago greyhound bus used a rotated with a detroit engine, they had a off set pan and If I remember the rings on the pistons were different
