I recently was told by another HR owner that there was a turbo recall on the ISL engines by Cummins. Has anyone else had a problem with the turbo on the ISL engine or received a notice of a problem?

I have an ISL 400 engine and had the turbo controller module go bad on me. Symptoms are lack of power. It is mounted on the opposite of the engine from where the turbo is mounted. Took about two hours to replace. Access is through the inside of the coach.

Dealer had none in stock, but the Cummins central supply had about 160+ in stock. Sounds to me like that part goes bad on a regular basis if they had that many in stck

Call Cummins and give them your VIN number. I don't know about a recall, but there is a campaign just released to re-clock the turbo for better oil drainage. I'm in the process of having some work done at the Coburg OR Coach Care facility, and mine was frozen and required replacement under warranty.

I return tomorrow for them to complete my repairs and can provide the campaign number if you need it.

I have not heard of a recall or campaign on the turbo. While I have not had any problems thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Corky, I will call Cummins and see if our coach is part of the "campaign"

We have a 350 Cummins on our 2004 Journey.
The turbo has been replaced twice. The first time with only 20,000 miles.
Now we are having troubles again.
We can only hope for that recall!!
Oh, we are just 18 days past the 5 year warranty!

There are 2 'campaigns' that I am aware of, and I was notified that my engine needed to be addressed under both.

The first is a engine computer firmware update to address possible turbo lag. That is a simple download from the service laptop.

The second is the re-clocking campaign where the turbo is supposed to be rotated to straighten the input and output oil lines to (in theory) provide better lubrication and cooling of the turbo. My Cummins shop told me that the bolts are always corroded on and have to be broken and/or ground out so they just order a new turbo for each campaign to make sure they can get you back on the road quickly.

Slick- When was your engine birthed (should be on the engine plate on upper right rear flange just in front of the sheet metal timing cover on the back (assumes you can access that))? Looks like yours & mine may be close.

Second, how were you notified of the recalls?
Thanks, Mike

Coach is in the shop for other non-turbo repairs right now, but I think I remember that the "born on date" was September 2007. I got one recall notice by mail, then just before I took it in for that recall I had a bulb go on in my head and I decided to call Cummins to see if there were other recalls that I should know about. Turns out there were 3 "campaigns" that I took care of during my trip to the shop. The third one was very minor, like putting on a corrected sticker or something like that.

the recall is to check to see if your turbo needs to be repositioned so that oil (used to lubricate the turbo) will drain correctly to the pan. If required they will reposition it.

Did you or anyone else have the ECM recalibration done on the 360 engine (campaign 0836)?
If you did did it affect your fuel economy?

I had the recalibration done. I really haven't put enough miles on the coach since then to determine any effect on fuel use (I feel kinda funny using the term "fuel economy" when it comes to a 46,000 lb coach with a big diesel in it).
