Not a difficult job but you will need a small torque wrench.

What year is your motor and is it in a truck or in a RV?

It is simple to replace either way but what is wrong with your turbo?

If you have a newer VGT turbo and they are saying it is bad it mite just be that you have gotten a tank of bad diesel and it is causing the turbo nozzle ring to stick making it seem like it is bad they tell you that the turbo needs to be replaced but unless the thing is smoking and not getting up to power then I would def try some other stuff first. The VGT turbo has the intergrated exhaust brake....

Let us know whats up cause if your turb o is bad this is like the 10th one I have heard of in the past month.

I had a check eng. light.Took it to cummings and they checked it out and said it needed replacing. It is in a 2004 Coachman C/C 37ft. I am waiting to here from the warranty company to see if it is covered. If not I am thanking of replacing it my self. Power is down on it for sure.

Wow small world we have a Coachmen cc 2006 model (bought new in Aug 05) and Cummins told us it was our TURBO fault code 2383 Good Sam did not pay as promised by there policy we purchased, 6 months out of Cummins warranty, and 28000 miles, we have a CEL and when it is on it acts funny but after ALOT of reasearch and the fact that GOOD SAM is a SCAM we are trying a few other things first.

1. we are draining the tank and replacing fuel and filters. The local DODGE dealership parts manager bought diesel at the same place as us at about the same time as us and his cummins truck would barely run and this same fuel stattion replaced ALL there pumps and tanks 2 weeks after we bought fuel there

2. The VGT turbos are really sensitive to sooting and this can cause issues with sticking of the "turbo nozzle ring" which depending on where it is stuck can mess with boost pressure and or how the motor breaths basically making it act like the exhaust brake is on.

After contacting several diesel performance places and a couple of turbo rebuilders we are willing to see if the issues can be corrected ourselves rather than paying $2400 and another $1100 for misc labor and parts/fluids

If the turbo is bad you would have smoke, oil in the airfilter tube, and or the turbine would be binding or damaged.

On the Dodge Trucks they offer a exhaust side cleaning kit where they actually drill a hole and tap it to access the cleaning fluid into the exhaust side of the turbo. Now personally I think CUMMINS knows of the issues with the turbos and they are not saying anything because of the type of turbo that is used is focused on RV and School Bus so they kind of have you over a barrel.
