I also remember when unleaded fuel was going to destroy all pre-1971 gas engines.

But everyone should do whatever they are comfortable with of course.
Fact is, the switch to unleaded fuel DID INDEED cause serious damage to MANY older engines - just as addition of Ethanol damaged MANY older fuel system parts - like the $800 damage it did to my '85 Corvette's fuel injection system.

Unconcerned or uninformed (as yet unaffected?) folks can downplay or ignore reality as they personally see fit - *I* prefer informed, PREVENTATIVE measures, as compared to REACTIONARY, after-the-fact ones...

YMMV!

Forgot about this thread. For problems with fuel lubricity check out VW and Bosch fuel pumps and then on the concerns of the Ford guys (I an one, same pump setup). Word of possible law suit and Dot asking for info.

I just completed a trip across the country about three weeks ago. I noticed something at the truckstops that I never saw before. The diesel pumps have labels on them saying that the fuel is mixed with 5% bio-diesel.......How about that one? I didn't notice any difference in performance or mileage change at all.

It's when it starts eating the gaskets and 'o' rings in the older engines.
