Uprating ISM 450

I have been told that the only difference between the ISM 450 and ISM 500 is in the software and that a Cummins tech can easily uprate a 450 to 500 using just the computer.

Is this true? If so, is there any downside to doing this?

Not sure about the upgrade but you should verify that you won't have more power than your trans can handle.

Ken,
My understanding is that it's just a simple programming change. However, it's not cheap! I think it's because of the additional warranty exposure. You should have a 4000 series trans and it's good for 500hp.
