I recently purchased the silverleaf VMSPC. I checked the diagnostic and there were several things there that does not make any sense to me. I called the company and they said it is errors from the ecm, maybe a bad ground? ? I have no problems with the engine at all. Runs perfect and I get good mileage. Any suggestions. it all reads the same date and time. This is only 1 file, I have others that have different things. it reads the following:

Do you get a check engine light?

I get check engine lights much of the time, I was told by Freightliner its posssibly a connection problem at the Vehicle Interface Module. At some point I will demate and clean up some connections. I have never experienced any problems with the performance of the engine even with the check engine light and VMSPC codes that are set.

heres a couple of the diagnostic codes I get routinely

ENG PID 256 0 Parameter Request High Reading 10/22/14 13:58
ENG SID 237 11 Start Enable Device Unknown Failure 10/26/14 11:23

This only happen to me once, it coincided with a service where I changed the fuel filters. I suspect that it had to do with air in the system. After the engine ran a short time everything was fine and it hasn't happened again.

I'll be watching this thread to see if there are other comments.

On my prior RV with a 300HP Cummins I had a odd listing several times. Worked with Silverleaf and they even tried to rewrite some of the program for me. Freightliner could not even find the problem. After several months we found a small wire on top of the engine where it looks like a mouse might have chewed parts of it. Replaced the harness and it worked great. and FL covered it under the warranty.

I would clear all codes and then drive the coach. I don't put a lot of faith in codes that all have the same time stamp.

Love my Vmspc but for fault codes I have found it easier to use the Cummins PowerSpec software. It will pull the fault codes and can give an explanation in "English".
Look here: Cummins PowerSpec
click on the download tab and see if it works for you.

My check engine light never came on, or any other warning light, and no problems whatsoever, all ran great!

Here is an update since my last post. I had several things that I had to replace. Firstly: The alternator went on me because my house batteries were to old and every time I drove, it put to much of a burden on the alternator and caused it to wear out. (or so I was told). Secondly: I also replaced the house batteries. Thirdly: I replaced the belt tensioner. Fourthly: I did all my fuel, oil, changes etc.

While working underneath I also happened to notice a broken wire that connects a sensor, just hanging there. It is the sensor that connects to the auto compression water overflow valve (to release extra water from compression tank). Well, I now have no more codes come up at all on my computer!!!

So I assume that one/all of these problems contributed to the codes being recorded. I have a feeling that it was the broken sensor wire but do not know for sure. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.

Have to say that Silverleaf are great people to talk to, and they go out of their way to find solutions, highly recommend their program.

Sounds very interesting, but what hardware do you need with it? The $900 Inline 6 adapter?

There are some much less expensive USB cables, but the don't have recognizable connectors, perhaps they are options for the expensive adapter?

I have a B&B adapter (about $110) and use the serial port on my laptop. The software will also track fuel used and mileage among a lot of other interesting items.

The Vmspc software requires a dongle made by Silverleaf Electronics which is the interface between the chassis diagnostic connector (6 pin on older coaches, 9 pin on newer ones) located near the stealing column and your computers USB port. Cost is around $ 350

Just to clarify:
I have two adapters. One is the B&B device for use with the Cummins software (B&B makes a Cummins approved adapter) and a second made by Silverleaf Electronics for use with the VMSPC software.

PandK, Where can you get the Cummins software at a reasonable price for an RV owner?

Check here: https://insite.cummins.com/insite/downloads/index.html
for the Insite software.
and here:Cummins PowerSpec
for the PowerSpec software. PowerSpec if free and lets you read fault codes and do trip reports.
