Uh, my understanding is that Cummins had trouble passing the emissions test and wrote a program specific to testing so the engine would pass. The control module actually would sense the test was in progress (probably through the testing interface through the test port on the engine) and rewrite programming to pass. Cummins got fined by the EPA and was forced to really pass emissions, not just rewrite the programming during the test. The campaign includes a rewrite of the software on the powertrain control module and a mechanical insert in the exhaust stream. The reprogramming of the software is what dropped the mileage, not the aftertreatment can. This was a very common complaint on the Cummins equiped Dodge trucks after that campaign was completed. There should be, after the software rewite is performed, an additional sticker now somewhere visible in the engine compartment indicating a reprogram, the date, and what software version was used.

Paul, Sounds like a reasonable scenario. I just did not know that the EPA ran tests on engines before 07. It makes sense that they would since the ULSD is the second lowering of sulfur, so emissions have been of interest for some time. I believe sulfur content was lowered first in the 90's. I don't have to get emissions tested in Virginia on my 2000 ISB for a license, but do any states in the US have tests for any diesel engines?

EPA non-conformance action against diesel engine manufacturers isn't anything new - see HERE.

I have lost 6/10 MPG since campaign 0925 was installed
If you LOST that many MPG after the install, how many MPG do you get now, and what did you get before?

We have an 06 Kountry Star with the Cummings 330 and according to the computer we are getting an average 7.5 MPG, from Miami to Key West we got 8.2. I'm almost sure the campaign 0925 was done before we bought the RV.

Hi JoeandMarcia,
Doc is correct. 6/10 is .6 MPG.

Thanks,

I was thinking I need to convert it back someway if it was going to double my MPG. But .6 to 1 mgp isn't worth the effort.

I just bought a 5"straight thru polished stainless steel muffler for my ISM for $140 on E-Bay. Wack that big drum off and replace it. It's an 5050XL

With the new after treatment device they installed did they tell you anything about issues with the "diesel particulate filter" and filter regeneration? I have an 08 Fleetwood with the after treatment exhaust on it from the factory and now I have an issue with filter regeneration... it's being towed to a Freightliner facility today.

Hi tedward1555,
I think the after treatment device they installed is more like a catalytic converter not a DPF. What ever it is, it is a stand alone unit. There are no electrical connections.
