Just had the news my Dynasty needs to have the timing cover replaced due to warpage. What started as a slow leak about 2 weeks ago has now developed into a steady drip of 1 liter in an hour of driving. "Bad for the environment, bad for my wallet"

They are saying it is a 20 to 25 hour job to remove the cam, bed, and all related components. Has anyone else had this problem with their C8.3?

It has 101,065 miles on it, runs strong and gets all the regular maintenance.

Just my bad luck, or ????

Maybe there is a difference with these engines but why would all of that need to be removed to swap out the cover?

I would do some research, talk to Cummins engine rebuilders (others) and get a few more opinions...or confirmation.

I would have to do the work myselfas $5K is nowhere near in sight and mine would be harder as the access isn't there from the rear like your Dynasty.

I would call Cummins and talk to a tech.

Let us know as this is not a fun thing to find out. I am also curious why the warpage. Has the engine been overheated before?

Just got the bill today - $5470.77! Was told it took over 30 hours, but was only charged for 29.

Now the problem is the steering is too tight it's like the power steering pump is not working. The shop has (claims) they spent another 4.5 hours bleeding the system, but it's still the same. They think I'm mad. I told them I KNOW how it was before I brought it in, and it was nothing like it is now.

Well see what happens tomorrow, as I refused to take it home.

Question: does anyone know if there are other hydraulic items that need bleeding? We jacked up the front, did the "Turn to turn" well over 20 times. And lifted the coach thru the leveling jacks several time. Thinking there must be another bleed or something. Reservoir is topped up. Help!

The more people I talk to the worse I feel - apparently I've been over charged. I should also mention, "Don't ever buy the after-market warranty, namely COAST TO COAST!" They have denied already two claims (including this one), charged $2,600 for the warranty, and I am now awaiting approval for the AC compressor. They (well, I guess the dealership) is eager to sell the service, but fail at honoring the repairs.
