The smaller one with the allen wrench cap on it is the one you want to adjust......
I made a adjustment to mine years back, I had the engine off, made a adjustment, put the cap back on, started it up..........and did this a couple of times till it was where I wanted it to be. I am not to sure you can make the adjustment with the engine running......I did not want to try it.

To further my confidence on fix... is that coolant system is working temp readings from gauge:black resevior: exhaust from top of motor

170:145:94 *f
190:155:111
200:170:140
208:174:152

I increased the rpm by 100 and the fan went from not spinning to spinning and cooked motor at increased idle....

?? don't understand this? the fan should always be spinning, even at a idle, and increase rpm's with engine rpm's........did you adjust the priority valve?
From your readings, I would still be looking at the temps sensor on the engine.........seems as that the thermostat's have not even opened fully yet, and your dash is reading over 200 deg.
The surge tank has small coolant hose's going into it and these come off the engine, so the surge tank will be warmer that the outlet of the thermostat housing during warm up.

Those temp readings were before the adjustment of the priority valve. Those were the temp readings as well with the fan not running and at an idle. Once it hit 208 I gave it an extra 100 engine rpm to get the fan turning it's about 250 rpm and it cooled down back to normal 185 or so on temp gauge.

It was also cooled and not cooked the motor. I miss typed.

I am hoping that was it. Just got back from a drive and everything seemed to maintain properly at idle at stop lights and such. It was a new priority valve, the other one in the picture, with a new pump, new filters and fluid.

You don't sound convinced?

The fan was not spinning originally or very lightly at the beggining of this at idle after instal of new parts listed above.

It is now spinning with the adjustment at idle.

208:174:152 with these temps with your IR gun, if it is accurate, the dash gauge should be reading around the 152 deg. that the outlet of the thermostat housing is........that is the coolant coming out of the block, your gauge is saying 208 deg. and the outlet of the block going to the radiator is saying 152 deg. Do you see what I am saying..........
I have a Scan Gauge D on my dash, and it reads the same engine temps that the dash gauge does......from cold to operating and traveling temps.

Palehorse89,
Thanks for the information, I'm always learning new things. I'm familiar with the problematic Sauer Danfoss Fan Controller and the Source Engineering Wax valve. The wax valve is infinitely variable based upon temperatures. I would imagine the there's more wear and tear on the system the OP has, being it's based on engine rpm and not temperature.

Just got back from beach and noticed on way down there the water temp would increase to 3/4 of a gauge 230+ when stopper at a stop light. Would immediately (within 1/4 mile of half throttle) be able to cool itself back down but could not maintain cool temp (around 200) with out the hydrostatic fan running... has 55000 miles but recently sat for 3 yrs.

Has coolant. But coolant does fill reseviour when running.
Changed the coolant filter
And coolant
Cleaned the radiator with 409 for debris
Engine oil is past full on dipstick.

Not sure... made a four hour trip from Huntington beach sc to Greensboro nd today 90 degrees. Was able to baby it through the stop light keeping it limited to 3 rd and creeping with rpm up for fan. Ran into some issue around last part where speed limit was 70 and that was 6th gear for me at about 68 mph and 1200 rpm. The temp got up to 225-230.

Any ideas....
I can tell you what I had to do to fix my over heating 95 8.3 spartan 505 977.3314 Don text me first
