If I'm right here, you have another post about bad brakes.
Both of your posts have pictures of serious rust and corrosion. Even the oil pan in your picture looks very rusted.
In the compressor picture it looks like a steel access cap, (possibly for connecting rod access) that has rotted thru. There is probably a lock ring holding it in, but I think the compressor will need to come off.
If you can get a model number off the compressor, you may be able to get a parts breakdown to see what holds the cap on and if it can be replaced, in position.
Good Luck

I think Twinboat has nailed it. There is some serious rust going on here.

As stated, twinboat nailed it. What you are looking at is a soft plug on the bottom of the air compressor, as said, it is there for access to the rod cap nuts.
When my compressors crank "Snapped" into.......it knocked the soft plug out....... and black oil was all over......everything, notice the oil trail in the back ground...............it went 1/2 mile back up the road also
Call Cummins and ask if the plug can be bought from them..........or you might just be able to match something up to it if you get it out, in order to get a good measurement. Good luck!

I could not get a # off the unit it was just too dirty. I was able to call Cummings and based off the engine # was able to get a parts list for the compressor. So it is at the mechanics now. The rust thing is a project that I will do in the spring. Will get a wire brush and go to town then cover with a rust prevent type of paint.

Good luck replacing the cap. I would be very nervous removing it judging from the amount of rust in your photo. Stuff like this usually has a way of morphing into a can of worms.
Perhaps be prepared to remove and rebuild the compressor while you're at it. Keep us posted.
