What oil do you use in your Cummins?
In the boat and tractor we use 15W 40 Rotella brand. My MH is a 2000 Fleetwood with a 5.9 Cummins, just turned 26,000 miles.
What oil do you have the best history with?

I've always used Delo 15w40 in my two diesels we've had. Might change that depending on what Cummins says next week on the engine rebuild! Seems to me they recommend something different now. Premium Blue comes to mind but I'm not sure what brand that is. Need to Google it I guess.

I buy Valvoline Premium Blue when it is on sale at the auto stores to carry with me.
When Speedco does my LOF and fuel filter changes I have them use Chevron Delo 400.
HERE is an interesting analysis of different diesel lube oils including synthetics.

Thanks for the link, good info.
Looks like the Cummins Premium Blue and the Delo 400 are both good choices.
I did oil sampling on the Dutch Star's ISC just to get a baseline. Each time it came back the same: Run it for 5,000 miles more and retest. I went three years with the same oil due to the testing. Then I changed it and the filter 110 miles before we traded it in!
I'll be doing oil testing on the ISX when we get it back just to keep an eye on the iron that showed just before it blew up.

I change my oil every year, no matter the mileage (7K - 12K). I buy Rotella 15-40 in the 2.5 gallon jugs at Walmart. My second other choice would be the Chevron Delo. Costco always has it.

Which Rotella? According to the report linked above the Rotella T is in the lowest category but the synthetic is in the top tier. The Delo is in the top tier also.
But I do wish they had done actual wear testing of the various oils too.

A caution on the filter part only, to you, and others reading this thread.
Filters have Shelf Lives. Be sure you use your filter within it's shelf life.
I've never seen a problem with oil analysis and running longer when the results warrant it. However I'd recommend having the filter changed, and top off the oil, as part of running longer between actual full oil changes.
Filters are cheap, and engines? Well they do get expensive to repair ! (Not meant as a joke, as I've followed your ISX and Cummins 'discussion'...
Best to you, and all,
Smitty
Oh yeah - I run Delo, but only because the local Costco carries it at a good price. Will run Valvoline without a problem too. I change yearly, and request a sample each change.
If I were to go longer, with samples showing it was OK to Go, I'd probably run Mobile One for Diesel... But, prefer the fresh Dino yearly for now.

Chevron Delo 400 15W40 or Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W/40. Had excellent results using both in city delivery and OTR trucking operations. Used my share of Shell Rotella T also with no problems. All good products and all meet the engine manufacturer requirements.

This "analysis" is merely one man's opinion based on the different additives in the oils he "analyzed." Additive packages vary by producer and need to be tested as a whole, not dissected by TBN or zinc content or what have you. There are industry standard tests that are much more useful than this.
