I only use Fleetguard on Cummins, FoMoCo on Ford and AC on GM, Cat on Cat engines.
Hate to see a Wix, NAPA, Joe the Motorist filters on the the above engines. Sorta non professional ?

Agreed, after seeing first hand engine failures from aftermarket oil filters that failed, I use nothing but OEM. In fact I have seen one OEM filter fail and the manufacture replaced the engine with a reman engine on a vehicle that was 13 years old with 150K on the clock. Get an aftermarket filter company to do that.

I have heard that Fleetguard is made specifically for Cummins engine company. This is the OEM filter. Not sure if that is true but it is on their website so I have to believe it. For my fleet of vehicles I was able to get better pricing on OEM filters than going with NAPA. I much rather use OEM than aftermarket. I would still if we had to pay more but saving $$$$ is a bonus.

Use NAPA Gold they are made by Wix. They are as good as youcan get.

Where are the specifications to back that up?

I buy my motorhome engine and generator, dinghy, pickup truck, SUV, motorcycle, boat, S&B backup generator and garden tractor oil, air and fuel filters (as well as my S&B and motorhome drinking water filters) from Amazon. One stop shop for all of my filter needs once a year. Pick a filter brand and they probably can provide it either from their warehouse within 2 days or from an affiliate, typically with free shipping on my orders.

Wix is a second tier filter. A little better than Fram. I use Fleetguard on all my diesels. But not all OEM filters are great. AC Delco no longer makes filters. They are made by Champion labs and are no better than Wix. Ford has never made their own filters. Same with Mopar. Both Cat ( made by Donaldson) and Fleetguard make some of the best. Donaldson are on par with Fleetguard. I would never put a Wix filter on any of my vehicles.

i learnt a lesson from a filter failure on my car years ago. my tranny was cooked; upon tearing up the tranny, the filter was cut wide open and shreds went into gears. ever since, i stick to my principle - always use OEM filters whenever possible. a small money vs. big money.

last week i ordered oil filter, two fuel filters and an air filter from filter barn. it's just a little over $100 so shipping was free. btw, the reason i ordered air filter was i had not seen a record from PO showing it had ever been replaced since new. I don't feel comfortable by just looking at airflow gauge. it's 70kmi the filter media may have been dried up or torn who knows. once the items arrive i will do it in no time.

oh, another info - cummins recommends valvoline premium blue 15w40 oil. a couple days ago autozone had it on sale for $14/g. not bad.

I would be interested in what the stamped Shelf Life Date is on your fuel filters, after what I had shipped to me twice... I'd look over all of the dates on all of the filters, and double check with Cummins on how long each is good for. Know it is three years for fuel filters. So anything less then 11075 (yyddd) would be of concern.

Best of luck with your CC!

I was talking to our AC Delco rep a few weeks ago and he said he visited the plant that makes oil filter for GM. He said they make the GM, Motorcraft, I believe they were making CAT filters at the time of his visit. There were a few other OEM's he listed but I forgot. But he was saying that this company which I thought was Racor but definitely don't quote me on that was the main manufacture for most OEM filters.

Thanks Smitty for the sharing on one of your posts where I learned the tricks of date code on filters. On the day of order, I called filter barn and asked two questions:
1) Where are the filters I am going to buy from? I can accept those produced in USA or Mexico, not knockoffs from emerging countries.
2) The date codes. All filters shipped to me must bear the date codes within 3 years from the date of receiving.

I further put these two terms into the note section on their website during the order process. Today the items arrived. All of them are marked as made in Mexico which is fine as I know Cummins has factories in Mexico. The date codes are:

Oil filter LF9009 132981827 (made in 2013 Oct, good)
Fuel filter FS1212 122721823 (made in 2012 Sept, ok)
Fuel/Sep FS1022 132911823 (made in 2013 Oct, good)
Air filter AF25139M 131101302 (made in 2013 Apr, good)

It looks like my call and note worked. Didn't they?
I have been blessed to be on this board gaining knowledge from those of you with big hearts. My hats off to you all!

That is interesting. I have not heard much of that oil. Our International fleet with DT466's came factory filled with Rotella. We have been using Kendall oil way before I started working there. Oil reports seem to show it is doing ok. But our trucks will put 500 engine hours on within 8-9K miles.

OK since we are on this subject, does anybody know of any resources that actually test multiple brands of filters and compares them to OEM requirements. Im talking restriction to flow, filtering efficiency, Micron rating, filter square area. I have done several google search's with little results. Most are just from forums like these.

I had always been using Rotella T or Delvac for my cars/truck until called Cummins the other day. Googled "Valvoline Premium Blue " and found out it's pricier than other major brands - even Walmart - while selling all other brand 15w40's about 12.50/g but Premiun Blue for 14.6/g and online only (could be $2 going to Cummins?)... Autozone $14/g is the best price I can find now.

Cat and Donaldson are aprtners in a huge plant in Illinois. Purolator makes Motocraft and maybe Mopar. Ac Delco are made by Champion labs. AFAIK Racor does not make any oil filters. Comparing filters is very difficult, Some filter mfrs. do not produce a full line. So maybe they make a good filter for one application and just buy the others from someone else. If you really want to compare you need a scale and filter cutter. But even hen unless you are filter specialist one might not know which filter media is better. I can tell you that cutting open any Fram filter is an eye opener. Cheap cans and top construction. The media looks like recycled paper. Using certain brands of fuel filters can get you a filter that is substandard for certain applications. You cannot go wrong using Fleetguard in a Cummins. Also do not trust the crossover on the Filter Barn website. It is often totally wrong! Maybe Spike will jump in and enlighten us.
