Winter or Spring?

My diesel mechanic, which came highly recommended, argues that I should wait until I bring my motorhome out of storage in March to change oil and filters. With only 3,000 miles since the last oil change, he says it's much better to start the season with fresh oil. If there is any moisture build up during the winter, best to get rid of it in Spring. The coach will be in covered storage for four months.

What do you think?

If you drive it all year, it does not make any difference when you change the oil. I have a boat with a diesel, the boat mechanic says to change the oil in the fall. Then run the engine to circulate the oil...thus coating all the engine's interior with fresh oil and the fresh oil sits in it all winter.

I have spent a lifetime rebuilding diesel engines. You want to change the oil before you put the engine into storage. That gets rid of the acids that have accumulated in the old oil, and puts a nice coating of brand new oil on all moving parts in preparation for storage. It really does make a difference.

I agree..

But, if your really nervous, you can change it going in and out.. Little expensive though..
