Has anyone seen 10w/30 diesel oil anywhere? I can't seem to locate any for my C7.

The more common oil is 15W-40 that CAT approves of as well for the RV C7. You need to be aware of the oil that is being put in if your unit has a 2007 engine. It must meet CAT'S ECF-3 (CJ-4). A CAT dealer may be your best bet for either viscosity.

Steve, I got mine at O'Reilly's. It was Shell Rotella, 10W-30. I don't think O'Reilly's has a store near you but any auto parts store that handles Shell should be able to get it for you.

Gary, I've been looking all over the place, no luck.
Thanks Leo, mine is a 2006 vintage engine, is why I bought it before the 07 was mandatory.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but have you tried Wal-Mart? I just bought 5 gallons of the Rotella last night at a very reasonable price.

JMJCSIM, did you get the 10W-30 or 15W-40 weight? My two local Wal Marts carry the 15W-40 but not the 10W-30. One of the Auto Dept. Managers offered to order it for me, but then I found it at O'Reilly's.

checked Wal-Mart and Sams again today while shopping with my DW. Plenty of 15w/40, not a drop of 10w/30

Amsoil sells a HD 10W-30 diesel oil. I use either their 15W-40 in my C7, although I don't drive it much in the winter. I am actually using the 15W-40 in a Chevy Malibu with nearly 200k on it. The temps were around zero last week and it cranked fine. Using this weight has eliminated the excess bearing clearance for cold starts as well as oil consumption.

Steve, I just checked the Mobil website and they do make the Mobil Delron 1300 in both 10-30 and 15-40. This oil is rated as CJ-4 and backward compatible.

I have seen the 15-40 in Wally World. Maybe you could ask if they could order the 10-30 for you. I have ordered tires not normally stocked at Wally World before.

Sounds about right Ron, I am a long time fan of Amsoil. I have heard that the C7 prefers 10w-30 over 15/40, its much better for the injectors and increases mileage.

Don, I will ask at the Wally World and see what they say. Maybe for 2 cases they will.

Not to offend anyones oil preference but Cat is very specific about what specs an oil must to be used in their engines. If you have an 06 you still have a few years of engine warranty and I assure Cat can tell exactly what kind of oil you use with an oil analysis.

Follow the instructions in your manual or go to a Cat dealer. The Cat manual for my engine says the minimum oil spec for our typical use must be 15W-40 and API CG-4 certified. If you want to extend the oil change interval then you must use oil that meets additional requirements. Because AMOIL is API Certified it is not approved for use in Cat engines. The best oils you can use in your Cat engine, and the one that meet Cat's specs are the fleet service oils such as: Shell Rotella T, Chevron Delo 400, Mobil Delvac.

Another reason for using the proper viscosity oil is the injectors (HEUI injectors) on the C7 and C9 engine are operated via engine oil and the viscosity is important for proper operation.

I understand what you are saying Chuck. My C7 manual does approve 10w/30 oil if ambient air temps are below 104*. I was told by 2 life long Cat service tech from a very large Cat Dealer that the C7 will do much better on the 10w/30 oils, there easier on the injectors and the started motor. Do you think Cat would void your warranty if they found Amsoil in yer crank case ?
