2002 Discovery 3126 Cat motor oil leak
Just got back from a 2,000 mile trip and looks like I've developed a oil leak looks to me like there's a plate on the side of the block were the oil filter is at that's leaking anyone else have had and problem with this?

Yes, had the same leak, oil cooler gasket.

The filter housing gasket is likely the culprit but the cooler gasket has to be changed at the same time. It's not real expensive to fix but because of the tight spacing the labor charges add up a bit. I think mine was about 2 hours.

Yes I figured that is what it was talked to my mechanic at work and he said that it wasn't the hard of a job but to change the I rings on the oil cooler while I was in there

We had the same problem a year ago. Its the oil filter mount gasket. We took ours to a CAT dealer. Apparently there is an upgrade to the gasket design. Hasn't leaked a drop since!

3126 oil leak
Changed my oil filter base gasket. See my post on TiffinRVNetwork under Caterpillar engines. Have posted some pictures as well. You will loose about a qt. of oil but be prepared for the coolant bath !

Finally got all my parts and going to do this as soon as I get two good days of weather talked to a cat guy got all the drawing break down now I have a better understanding of what I'm getting into
