Please , can anyone help me locate the location of the heat temperature sensor on my 3126 Cat. After my last trip to Arizona the motor over heated on a long grade. I pulled over and let it cool off. Ever since then the temp. gauge has given me problems and now the gauge is pegged to the right, wether the key is on or off. I've looked all over the engine and can not find it's location. Heck, even the local cat. service dealer can't tell me where it is located!! Yea I know it makes no sence to me either.

If any one has any ideas I would greatly appreicate it.
thanks

Thanks for the drawing RedT. Now can you tell me how to enlarge it so that I can read it? Also where was the source? I would like to go there and see what else is available.

You should be able to click on the drawing to enlarge it. (If you have the .JPG file extension associated with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.)Here are a few links to CAT 3126E information:3126 Electrical Schematic Documents > Seapyramid.net

I can give you a vague description of where it is.
I just had a loose wire on mine and my temp. gauge went from zero to normal temps up and down..
Looking down on your engine, reach in and down the left side of the valve cover, then feel towards the rear and the temp. sender will have some wires coming from it. If I remember it would be just below the cyl head ?? and closer to the rear of the engine, maybe 6-8 inches or so from the end.
Sorry for being so vague, but I had to go by feel almost as I could not really get a good look at it without removing some more panels.
Your Cat. owners manual has a picture. The picture though is not of a 3126E maybe a B but the locations the same i

Generally, engine coolant temperature sending units for the gauge are located near the thermostat outlet housing. Coolant at that location is at its peak temperature as compared to being located to the rear of the engine.
