I decided to change my thermostats today and the NAPA guy told me it takes a 180 and a 190 degree set. however, when I pulled the old ones out, there were two 190s in there.

I have no idea if they are original or replacements. Can anyone confirm either two 190s or one each 180/190, and if so, does it matter which location each one goes in?

when I did mine they were both the same, can't remember if they were 180 or 190, but if I was you I would get them from the cat dealer near you because they are not that expensive so why take a chance. Joe

Because the nearest Cat dealer is more than 100 miles away.

I just realized that given the accuracy of these things, it's not going to matter. They could open at the same temp, at 10 deg different, and 40 degrees different. Heck, the hot one could open before the cold one if the accuracy is worse than 5%.

I will say this - the parts that came out were extremely high quality compared to the ones that I put in - which are Stant. The new ones were much rougher in the stampings, the methods used to put things together were much cruder. The ones that came out also had these nifty one-way air bleeds.

I checked the ones that came out. One was perfect at 190. The other was not opening all the way even at 210 or so, and began opening much later. At 2500 ft, couldn't get the water over 210-ish.
