3126B cranks but won't start
2 weeks ago arrived home from a 2500 mile trip with the RV and it ran fine. Went to change the oil this morning and I got lazy and did not warm the motor prior to changing the oil and filter. After changing the oil and filter tried to start the motor to check for leaks at the filter gasket and the motor will not start.
The motor cranks fine. First thought was that since I did not warm the motor and did not pre fill the oil filter it just needed to crank a bit to get the oil pressure up for the electronics to allow the motor to start. But after trying to start the motor for a while still no joy.
I have a scan gage D and it shows their are no fault codes or stored codes. Two things I have noticed when cranking the motor that may not mean anything. The first is that the oil dash gauge needle does not move at all when cranking the motor the second is that when cranking the motor for about 15 seconds the red temp light comes on.
Any thoughts?

Don't take this wrong. You did put the oil in and in the correct place. Also remove the oil filter and check for oil. If none prefill and try again.

3126B cranks but won't start
Yes and not to worry I did not take it wrong. That was the first thing I did was check the filter and it was full of oil. I don't think it's related to the oil change. A friend who runs caterpillars in his commercial boats gave me some things to check when I get the time. He says the start/stop fuel solenoid goes bad on the Cat motors.
And, I am following the other no start thread currently going on for other things I can check when I get a chance.

did you recently mess with the battery wiring or the engine harness in any way? The 3126 uses a separate ground line for the ECU. If it comes off it will crank but not start.
Somewhere on here you can find my embarrassing thread on that problem.

I am thinking that the CAT engines have to build a certain amount of oil pressure before the pressure sensor's contacts will close letting the engine to start.........as you stated, I would take the oil filter back off and look inside it,and see if there is oil in it, if not, fill it, reinstall it, try again to start the engine. I always pre-fill mine.

I don't know if it is possible to have an air pocket in the HEUI pump that would stop the delivery of the oil to the cylinder head where the high pressure oil is used to boost the fuel pressure and fire the injectors, but that sounds like the problem you've got.
The other possibility is that the air pocket; all the air from the empty oil filter; , moved into the HEUI pump and damaged it, due to lack of lubrication.
You say you're following another , no start 3126B post . Did you download the , no start pdf that was posted there?

3126B cranks but won't start
Thanks all for the suggestions.
Ended up having the RV towed to Pantropic Cat in Miami. That's a story all its own. Pantropic said the ECM was not communicating with the motor. They said it has an internal battery that goes bad and that with rear mount motors moisture can be a problem. Replaced ECM and reprogrammed, wallet a little thinner but the RV is back and running. Had Freightliner email the software to the Cat Dealer in case they had made any changes to the motors ECM. Cat said they only had to add that the motor would derate in an extreme over heat condition.
The only good thing in all this is I did not create the problem when I changed the oil.
