3126B engine codes

Yes, I have looked for the codes but couldn't find them. I have an '01 Tradewinds with a 3126B and several times lately I have started it up and a few minutes after starting, it will go into a lope mode and then shutoff. I checked my Scan gauge D and it showed a 164-2 and I couldn't find it anywhere.

I found this:
Quote:
CAT 3126 WITH CODE 164 INJECTION CONTROL SENSOR PRESSURE ERRATIC OR INCORRECT. EXHIBITS LOW POWER AND ERRATIC IDLE
Does that sound like yours? It could be anything from a bad connection to a bad sensor (most likely) to an ECM problem.

That's what it sounds like. It doesn't do it all the time, but it also has a bit of blowby and occasionally a bit of dark grey smoke on start up. The grey smoke is only as it first starts after it hasn't been run for several days and is only momentarily. Enuff tho to be kinda embarrassing if you're in an rv park.
I did have the IAPC valve replaced and the oil changed about 3K miles ago at the Cat shop in Tacoma. That was after the blowby started on the last leg of our trip to Vegas and back.

Before your next oil change, get a sample kit from Blackstone or JG Lube Services and send and oil sample for analysis. Then at least you will know if you have a serious problem, a pending problem or the internals of your engine are wearing normally. You will also have a base line set of wear metals and contaminates to build on at your next oil change.

Big dog, I have the same scan gauge and hade he same code come up, and the same lope , lack of power, stalling when I came to a stop, so I replace the injector actuation pressure sensor and changed my oil and filters, that made all the difference

Mebbee I should check with the CAT dealer that changed my IAPC,oil and filters a bit under 4K miles ago. It started about 1000 miles after that,so I never thought about it.

When I had a code on scangauge I couldn't find information so I called scangauge and they told me what it was. If there is any doubt as to the code you could give them a call.
