Heading out for Portland and other sites next week while the DW is in Kauai for a couple of weeks. Just got the rig back from the shop for a gennie problem and while it was in there the mech asked me when I had changed the air filter and I finally found it in the previous owners records and it had been about two years ago, soooo we changed it and it was filthy...So now we'll see if that will make any difference in mileage.

Just did 2300 miles SoCal to Denver area and back. 1999 Beaver Monterrey, 26,000 lbs, new toyos w/ 75-85 psi. Previous short trips show ~8.5mpg but had bad cal on gauges. Updated the Silverleaf software so that correction factors could be applied and figured out proper settings on the speedo dip switches and calibrated against GPS. On I-15 thru Utah finally had a chance to run on the flat with no wind and saw 15ish mpg @55 deceasing to 10ish at 65. Any grade or wind causes a dramatic falloff in mpg. from Rock Springs WY to Longmont, Co saw an average over 9mpg. On the return trip hit 25-50 mph winds all the way from the tunnel and across the great basin to bishop CA. Result was only 8.2 mpg, but I was leadfootin the whole way. Seems like if you live between Denver and Dayton and can stand driving 55 you have it made.

I just completed a trip from the Oregon Coast, over the coast range to Portland and then up I-5 to Bremerton, WA, and averaged 8.45 mpg. I have a 36 ft Ultimate Advantage and I was pulling an enclosed trailer with my racecar in it, 7200lb. gross, travelling between 55-65 mph. I was surprised and pleased at my mpg.

One trip of only a few hundred miles isn't enough to get a good "reading" In fact Cummins has studied the mileage issue and one of their white papers says that it takes 144,000 miles to get an accurate overall reading.

Running I-5 Palm Desert to Canada border, 9.7 overall , higher in Calif, with the towing speed.Lower, mpg, from Redding north, 3700 lb. towed. 31000 total. @ 58mph in Calif. to get the shift and lock-up in 6th gear. CC programed for soft. Not sure if anyone else feels this ;But I'm sure the ECM allows the engine to pull more power in cruise. I know that some highway rigs have this feature, and don't know if MHs run the same.
Please allow me a quick aside.
Bigdog. have they re-paved #58 out by 4 corners yet ? I nearly lost the towed in that line of potholes by the RR crossing just west of the junction. Eastbound lane.

Sorry Bigdog, I just re-read your post about your Vegas trip, we were on #58 at the same time. I thought with the recent posts to this thread , it was more current.

I have gotten as high as 11.7 mpg,& as low as 7.5 I avg about 9.5 overall. With cat motors if the MPG starts to drop significantly it most likely means the motor is in need of an over head (vavle adjustment).

I have 3.73 gears in the rear so at 73mph i'm at 2375. I usually cruise at about 65mph at about 2100 rpm

Thank you. I have the same gear ratio and get about the same mpg as you. Accept I run at 1850 for 63 mph. I don't know if it is me or not but the motor seems to be balance at that rpm.
