When I installed the 50/50 muffler one of the things I noticed was it is straight through with small openings along the inside tube. I guess those small openings are supposed to gather some of the exhaust and make it quieter. Wouldn't be much different than a straight pipe. If I were doing it again I'd probably go for the straight through pipe and then if to loud add a muffler.

The Aero 5050xl does open up the breathing of the engine. If it breaths it'll run.

Well let's see, hmmmm, "Opens up the breathing". Well, before I purchased and installed that so called "muffler", I was getting 7.1 on flat ground, pulling various toads. It accelerated at whatever pace it could, given the amount weight not only the coach and all its contents weighed but, also the toad, and all its contents too. The coach would climb certain grades at certain speeds in certain time frames.

After the install of that "muffler", the coach is still getting 7.1 mpg, accelerates at the same rate, with the same loads, climbs the same grades, using the same gears, and reaches the tops of those grades, at pretty much the same speed in the same amount of time.

Since there was absolutely ZERO improvement, in any form, at any level, at any speed, I'd say that to me, it was total waste of money. As stated several times, all we got out of it, WAS MORE NOISE. So, personally, it did no "opening up" of anything on ours.

That's totally unfair. With a proper test you might have done 0 to 60 mph 0.01 or 0.02 seconds faster.
Jeez

I think it's more like .000001 or .000002 improvement! It all depends on how thick the air was that day.

It helped my coach considerably. And once I got rid of that 150 pound monstrosity that came stock I know it helped. Plus with the MP8 it was a plus all the way around. And also a free flowing air cleaner was added.
It's gotta breath to run!!

Threw my Stock Muffler away 16 years ago - Straight pipe all the way out --- Can't tell tell difference at idle or off idle and sitting up front I don't hear a thing unless I go through a tunnel.
EGT's dropped 75 deg.

Well, I may rethink my idea of not straight piping after pondering on yours and other input on that solution. It probably wouldn't be any noisier than it is right now.

Dave, was it significantly quieter with the new OEM muffler? How would you describe the sound?

Cats seem to be a little more percussive and deeper sounding than other engines (IMO) so I still hear a throaty sound when driving beside buildings.
Mine exhausts out the driver side and from where I sit I can't tell any difference compared to the old muffler.

Mine shakes the buildings but then again so does my 33 Ford. I just get older but I never seem to grow up !

I agree with you on the nature of CAT engines. Actually, my kitty was always pretty throaty even before the muffler rusted out. That shouldn't be too surprising considering the muffler is just 8" D. x 35" L. Not much baffling in there, I'm thinking. Now it's buzzy/throaty because of the holes.
