My friend has a 3126E in his tow truck. He ran it out of fuel and now it does
some strange things.
1. Won't start when Hot
2. Cold start OK
3. Has a soft pedal (little power)

Any ideas guys/gals?

Thanks in advance.

Does it otherwise run OK? Did he get all the air out of the injector lines? Could be the filter is mostly clogged from dreggs from the bottom of the fuel tank?

He says it rolls fine when on the road except it has what he calls a soft pedal. Lack of power for acceleration.

Hot start is a problem, cold start is OK.

Our 3126B had an injector fail and it wouldn't start when it was warm. Started the next day in the shop after being towed. Maybe some bad stuff made it through the fuel filter and clogged an injector.

Filters, are the least expensive and first thing to check/change when faced with this condition. Then the possibilities get $$$$$$$. Was the motor at idle or pulling hard when the fuel ran out ? The high pressure pump relies on fuel for cooling/lube. Running it dry can wear it out internally. Lower pressure to the injectors = hard start hot, poor acceleration.
I hope it's only the filters !

Before I bought my 97 Vectra grand tour the previous owner needed to fix the hot start problem. I don't have the repair order but the PO told me that it was a high presure injector line that would leak down when hot, so no hot start. he did not mention any lack of power associated with it. The cost to fix was $1500, he paid it as we hasd already made the deal on the price.

Hope this helps,

Dan
