On ours I installed the Banks EGT in the exhaust manifold a little below the flange going to the turbo. The Banks kit had all the measurements included. Main problem was borrowing a 3/8" 90° drill.

" I'm sure glad I see someone else getting the mid 6s and 7s in fuel mileage. I keep seeing people claiming 8-9-10 or more mpg and I'm pretty sure if you dropped my rig from a plane it woudln't get that high a mileage falling to earth. 'Course I guess running at or over the GVW, carrying an 850 lb Honda Goldwing and towing a new Honda CRV doesn't help matters much.
Scott "

I imagine 10 mpg might be ontainable for a short distance in ideal conditions at a slow speed ( 50-55). But I can't see obtaining the MPG's some people quote. I think their going downhill for a short distance and filling up after 50 miles. I saw 8 mpg on a 350mile tank and was pretty excited. haven't seen one again, but I find it hard to drive below 63 mph, usually around 66-67.

ninos,
I'm kind of with you on this. I certainly won't say that people are dishonest when it comes to the claims of higher mileage, I just think there's a bit of "truth stretching" here and there. When you're piloting a 30,000, 40,000 or more pound rig down the road, and most likely towing at least something, it's just hard to imagine 10 mpg when, even some cars and pickups are still just above it. And, I'm not too sure if it matters just how much torque your engine puts out. Sure, it's obvious that higher torque motor, say a ISX Cummins can and will cruise down the road at a lower RPM at 60 then say a C-7 CAT in even a smaller rig and, that less RPM should account for higher mileage. But, you're still pushing a monster, heavy, severe wind drag unit down the road.

I have to agree there has to be a bit of truth stretching when it comes to mileage with these big heavy boxes we push down the road. I have checked mileage a couple of times with the pencil method and never saw 8. My Freightliner monitor panel shows a history of 7.2 mpg and it is not resetable so that is probably pretty close to true for the 31,000 miles on the coach. We are 32,000# and I drive 60 mph. I have a MP-8 programmer on my C-7 350 but I am not so sure it makes very much improvement in mileage but it does improve it some. It sure helped the power!

In other parts of the country some may do better but here in NW Washington we regularly are crossing the Cascade mountain range at 5000' from sea level here. I am a firm believer in the idea that if I have to worry about fuel mileage I have no business having this coach. Our last coach was a 31' Gulfstream Sun Voyager with no slides and a Cummins ISB engine. I regularly got 10-11 mpg. No way would we go back.

Jim

I didn't buy mine for the fuel mileage either. If I'm stuck with $5/gallon fuel that's the price I will pay for comfort. My last coach was a 24 foot class A Rexhall with a 502 Chevy big block. It was such a hot rod I didn't care about the fuel mileage it got either.

I think the ones that claim to get 10 mpg are much ligher RV's than we have. Usually only 2 slides where we have 4 slides. The 5.9 Cummins and the (pre C7) 3126 have been known to get better mileage on a lighter weight coach. I am in the 7.5-8.5 mpg range leaning more around 8ish. I had a F-250 diesel pulling a 12K 5th wheel and I would get 7.8mpg, so I say it is a wash as far as mileage and a much bigger plus for comfort and less sound.

I hope you remembered to order the 40' extension cord for the MP-8 controller (-: Stringing that wire from the engine to the dash is the biggest PITA installing the MP-8. The hookup on the engine takes 5 minutes after you get to the top of the engine. The two plugs you need to connect to are in the big wire bundle that run down the intake manifold side of the valve cover.

I ran the wire to the front so I could adjust the controller while driving. I can run a higher setting on flat terrain than when I am pulling long hard pull hills.

Makes sense, I didn't know about the 40' when I did mine, may do it later when I put in a EGT guage

Makes sense to do it all at once. I ran the cable for the MP-8 along with a 6 conductor outdoor phone cable plus a 1/8" plastic tube for the mechanical boost gauge at the same time. You can Tee into the hose going to the wastegate for boost pressure. Isspro told me there would be less than .3 degrees error using that wire for the pyrometer extension. I use two wires in the phone cable for the Isspro pyrometer and two to ground the mag on my Honda EU 1000i that sets on the ground in a sound deadening box I built. I'm lazy and when it comes time to shut the generator off I just push a button I have mounted in my two gauge panel and I don't have to go outside.

Second photo added by mistake and I don't know how to delete it. The small wire sticking out of the right end is the mag ground wire.
