Has anybody installed a 4040XL or 5050XL on a cat 3126 330hp engine in a Freightliner XC chassis ? If so, what has been your experience and did you do the installation yourself ?

I installed a 5050XL on my C9 in a Spartan chassis. Did it in about 2 hours, had to fab new hangers. Have been pleased with it, mileage went up about 0.3 mpg on first tank.

Richard, thanks for your comments, did you have to add and elbow at the inlet ? Also, have you noticed a noise increase, is it objectionable if louder. snoopy

Snoop, yes I did add a 5 in elbow and made 2 hangers from 5 in u clamps welded to flat bar and attached to oem rubber mount. Noticed it was a little louder at first. Now I don't hear it at all. Well worth the money and time. Total spent was $248 for muffler, elbow and clamps and 2 hours of my time.

Snoop, any truck shop should have it. I got mine fron the International dealer. My exhaust is 5 in from the turbo to the chrome tip, so I used the 5050XL and a 5 in elbow. Your application would depend on the muffler, if you have 5in out and 4in in now I would get the 5050XL, a 4to5 reducer and 4in elbow. Install the elbow, then the 4to5 into the 5050XL and outlet extension/tip.
