I am considering replacing my air filter on my Journey/Cat.330
The restriction? gauge reads just halfway and way below the redline.
I have had this coach just under 2 yrs. now and the odometer now reads about 28,000 miles.
I have no knowledge of a previous filter change.
What filter do I get? Is this Cat/freightliner chassis/filter common with other brands. Fleetwwod/Newmar etc. that use this chassie
Anyone know of a good place to purchase a filter. What model/part# or whatever.
How do you do it?
What should I expect in cost if I just went into a dealer and said replace it.

I had the air filter replaced on my 2004 Journey with a 330 hp Cat engine at a Truck Maintenance facility.

Cost: Filter $65, Labor $40, tax and "tool" fee

Can you provide the air filter number? I haven't replaced mine in nearly 3 years, and I want to get it done. I've been searching the forums, but come up empty, and don't want to remove the old filter without new one in hand.

I have a 2002 Horizon; Cat 330, 3126B.

on edit: I think I found it; Donaldson P537464 or WIX 46748
Does this sound right?

The filter was replaced in October of '08 ... my rememberer is not at good as it once was so all I can tell you is the what was on my copy of the bill from the service facility ... the "parts" line on the bill reads

FAR/114880-3 ECO 9 3/4 SIDEINLET

I replaced mine on my Cat 350 with Freightliner Part #FAR 114880003, which cost me $72.83 from Freightliner dealer. I believe it was an ECO side inlet filter.

I believe this filter cross references to a Donaldson P537454.

Hi,
I changed out the 330 filter last year. It was not as easy as it sounds. Due to the fact when it is pre assembled they use a glue to hold the rubber conections in place. I can tell you that at the Winnebago RV Club web sites or Frightliner Owners Club Web site, one of the member took photos on "how to do it". Also he gives you a do and don't note. As a matter of fact he saved me a lot of greaf by telling the viewer not to remove the upper boot. As for the cost it is from $79.99 to $150.00 on the net so as others have said truck shops are the cheepest. One last thing you need to make sure that the old one is a side inlet as some that I have seen in stocked part shops have top and rear inlets. My 2003 Journey DL was the side inlet, my tip to you is after you get the clamps open take a old flat screw driver and force it between the the rubber boots a the steel tube to free the filter. Good luck

Here is what I posted previously about the fun of changing the air filter when I did it.:

Today I purchased a new air filter and installed it myself.

Purchased the filter from the local Freightliner dealer (part number FAR/114880-3 $68.28, an Eco filter).

Had a tough time getting the old filter out once I was able to get the clamps loosened on everything. Because there is so little room to move anything, I ended up disconnecting the front tubing (5" outlet end going toward the engine) from one of the middle tubes, and disconnected the 6" inlet end from the inlet side of the air filter where the air intake stack comes down the back side of the rear of the motorhome. I then disconnected the other end of that inlet tubing from the inlet side of air filter itself. Then I released the large band clamps. Unfortunately I did not figure out that you could completely unhook those two large band clamps, so I unbolted both of them from the frame mounting, then removed the air filter by backing it out toward the rear and downward to get it out. It took a lot of effort to get the hoses off the metal tubes. One thing that helped was I took my fingers and pulled the rubber tubing away from the metal tubing completely around the edge of the tube. This helped "break" the seal that had formed from being clamped for the last three years. Of course, once I had it out and started to move the front hose over to the new air filter, I figured out that the snap bands completely disconnect at the snap fixture. Oh well, know that for next time.

Then I installed the front end of the tubing to the outlet side of the new air filter, put the clamps back in place and manuvered it back in place, reversing the take out procedure. Had a little bit of trouble pressing the front hose and clamp back in place, but with some pressure and moving around a bit, got the engine side back together, bolted the large band clamps back in place, tighten everything up. Then went to put back the rear side of the tubing and had a tough time getting one of the 6" tubes back together. Finally got things back and tighten up all the clamps.

My motorhome has the rear mud flap in place and it got in the way of moving around and seeing things. If you do not have one of those, you can move around underneath easier.

From start to finish it took me about and hour and a half to remove and replace. I gotta admit it was more work than I thought it would be. The inlet and outlet tubes are not easy to get off and put back on. I'm glad that replacement is not an every year thing for us.

I was very surprised how dirty the old filter was and how "aged" the filter element appeared after 11,500 miles. It was 3 years old from chassis assembly date. Made me glad I changed it, despite the filter meter saying everything was great.

Changed our filter today. The only issue I had was trying to get my right arm to work after a recent shoulder surgery. Although I had been told it had been changed when we were buying this motor home used ... I think it was the original. I had thought to leave it for the next service but the gauge was showing a lot of yellow.
