Alternator wiring

I have a 92 Beaver with a 3208TA and replaced the alternator yesterday and was kindle of chuckling about the tach being attached to the field winding...haven't seen that in a while...the old W Tachometer...anyway there was another wire attached to my fuel shutoff relay hot side and I have not seen that before...The 160 Amp I replaced it with did not have a lug for the wire which came through the porcelain insulator.
Anyone have a clue why the fuel shutoff SHOULD be attached to the alternator???
Thanks!

Stan owned a starter generator business so here goes.... The theory behind it is when the alternator stops producing energy, " stops turning", the fuel supply is now shut off. In case you are involved in an accident there will be no fuel flow to possibly ignite. Another method to do it is with an oil pressure switch which will require a lot of wiring.....hope this helps.

Very Grateful!

Mary...THANKS!...that makes perfect sense!...I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that would cause any major issue. If you could ask Stan if I should perhaps hook it up to the field connections as I did the Tach...
Aggain thanks so much for such a prompt and accurate response!!!

Stan said he can't tell you what to do because there are too many variables in the alternator to make that decision correctly from a distance.
