i am in the process of changing coolant in my 2000 cat 3126.

i have drained, flushed 4 times with tap water then have it filled with distilled water today and will drain tomorrow and change t stats, and hoses and refill with 100% cat coolant mixed 50 with distilled water.

how do i bleed of any air pockets? looked for a high point petcock or vent around t state housing and all i see is pipe plugs in housing, but the radiator clear tank is well above t stats.

i have read and heard of cracking a line at the pump, but were is this?

also heard the coolant tank is self bleeding??

my fear is all this talk of hot spots, cavatation and such inside the motor if all air is not removed causing severe damage.

thanks again to all tips or help.

I had CAT do my change. What they did for bleeding the air was to turn on the A/C, run the engine at 1500 RPM for about a min. Then turn on the heater controls and repeat the last step. All of this with the radiator cap off. Then, cap still off, let it idle for about 30 mins. at high idle, 1000 RPM's. Kept adding when needed. They put the cap back on and had me drive it around for another half hour. Let it sit for a while to cool. Pulled the cap and check the level. Filled the over drain tank to the proper level and off I went. The next morning I had to add about a quart of water and that was that. Do you have a "low water" alarm light on your dash? I never knew that I had one until this coolant change.

My 2001 Discovery has a 3126E Cat. Here's a pic of the tag which is affixed to the upper radiator support. Hope this helps with your fill procedure
