I don't know about the block heater but I just changed coolant and I believe the amount of coolant was 9.5 gallons.

I had my CAT block heater replaced at the FCSC in Gaffney, SC last year. I believe the tech told me he had to drain 2 gallons of coolant to do the job.

If your coolant (antifreeze) is good, (does not need to be replaced for other reasons), you will not need ANY.
Drain it , strain it and reuse it.
