C-10 Cuts Out

The C-10 (3176) in our 2000 Country Coach with 92,000 miles 2,200 hours, cuts out periodically. Sometimes while idling, sometimes while driving. It doesn't quit, it just cuts out for a second. No codes on the Cat engine monitor and no codes on the Silverleaf VMS. Changed both fuel filters and the air filter indicator is in the normal range. I'm wondering if there could be something going wrong in the WIlliams electric throttle.

IDeas?

Does it seem to die like you shut the key off or does it seem more like a miss? When it does shut down is it for a second, couple seconds, or so quick you can't even react?

When it cuts out it is so fast you can't react. Driving down the road it's just a momentary instance. Like hitting a bump. At idle, it misses and then catches itself and keeps idling. The problem is intermittent and impossible to recreate.

Being pretty familiar with diesels, I would hesitate to call it a miss. It seems more like something shorting out the fuel shutoff solenoid (if there is such a thing on a C-10). I'm familiar with mechanical engines, Detroit 2 strokes, somewhat familiar with Powerstrokes .

If that's the case I would examine the injector harness closely and look for any sign of chafing. It sounds like the harness is shorting just long enough to cause a hick-up. Other brands have had similar issues.

Ok that sounds like a good place to start and a reasonable explanation. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, a few weeks and about 1,800 miles later the symptom has not re-occurred. I haven't done anything. It just stopped doing it. Don't you love intermittent problems?
