C-12 505hp Idle

My engine at low idle is 500-600 and is somewhat rough. If I idle up to 700-800 RPMs it smoothes out considerably. Anyone know what the low idle RPM should be?

Call the Caterpillar RV Hotline with your engine serial number: 877 777-3126...and ask that question.
IMO nobody knows a Cat engine better than Caterpillar.

Hello my name is Casey, I am a CAT technician. Your idle is programmable. It should be set near 700 RPM or where it would feel the smoothest. There is another parameter that will control idle stability, and that may need adjusting. Request that your ECM software updated. Request a print out of your configuration before & after changes have been performed. That's my input for now.

Casey thanks for your advice. I am in the process of setting up an appointment with Cat and will do as you advise. Hopefully programming the idle up will solve the problem.
