C-7 Check engine light

We were heading out on our last trip and only got about 5 miles from home when the check engine light came on and the engine went into derate mode. Before I could find a spot to pull into which was no more than 1/4 mile the light went off and we continued on our 850 mile trip without a problem. Anyone have any ideas on this ? I can only come up with a possible fuel filter issue however both are always changed approx. 11,000 to 12,000 miles and currently I have approx. 7-8 miles on both. Any input will be more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

fuel filter does not cause the light to come on.
Now as to you question, not enough information, to even want to guess. the 10, 20 items that could cause the light on. Well, there are a lot less. You should get your CAT manual and see what would cause the lite to come on. They are all documented with CAT or Freightliner.
