The dealer has to buy the flash from CAT then add their overhead.

reporting back...
The 350 re-rate was worth the $500. It definitely feels better on the small to medium grades. It feels great again on the flats as well. Keep in mind this is all with towing a trailer. Previously with the trailer in tow, it would feel like I was going against a head wind... now with the little extra added power, it feels similar to no trailer at all on the flats.
The big grades still suck, but I expected that. For the money spent, I would say it was worth it, considering it is a factory CAT tune... it had no change on my temps.
Also, having the engine brake reprogrammed to latch mode was a huge improvement in driving experience.

[QUOTE=JLWoodward;5094188]How would I know what range/group I fall under by engine serial? That chart did t show serials. I'm kal47050. Would really like 350 as it's got a nice torque range, but I'm. Guessing mine can only go to 330. Would going route of mp8 tuner be better?[/QUOTE
The MP8 worked great on my engine. Better low end and hill climbing. Gained on average 1/2 mpg.

Yes. Cost was $700.
I noticed a reduction in RPM by 100 to 200 at 65mph.
Don’t have to push the pedal to the floor on the highway as much
Shifts are smoother.
Seems to get a little hotter going up hill but the fan kicks on and goes down quickly. It was near 100 outside air temp
You can feel the power at the higher RPMs.
I think it was worth it

FYI, prices look like they may fluctuate for the upgrade depending on your location. Mine was just completed on Tuesday at Cleveland CAT near Lancaster, PA and the cost was $399 excluding taxes. Definitely feel a bit more power and completed as I will be flat towing a 4 door jeep.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
For anyone else considering this - just be aware that (according to YouTube site "Adept Ape" the Cat mechanic) doing a rerate Flash of the ECM can damage the ECM (corrupt it or wipe up) requiring a replacement ECM (which is over $1,500 up). He said 1 in 30 flashes fail. And Cat will not cover the cost of an ECM replacement.
He talks about this risk at the 8:00 minute mark

Most problems with ECM flashing are caused by the tech not the ECM. But I think the 1-30 is very high number. I know our service department was not having that kind of failure rate. We were doing hundreds of flashes every 6 months and did not see that kind of failure rate. Safe Travels.
