C7 reflash/upgrade experience

I have a 05 coach with the 300 HP C7 motor. My understanding is I can have it reflash to be the 350 version. While the max torque remains the same the area under the curve is greatly inmproved with the percentage drop from max reduced from 38% to 12% to redline.

I also understand that roughing 3% of the ECU's do not survive the re flash and require a new computer.

I am trying to balance the risk reward of getting the update. I tow a 8k lbs trailer and the better torque curve seems appealing. more power in the higher RPMs {2,000 or so} with the greater airflow to the radiator seems like a good thing. My fan is belt driven and is determined by crank speed.

I am asking anyone who has done the reflash to chime in with their experience? how noticable was the change in driving and pulling hills?

i have not heard of problems with the re-flash killing the ECM - if that is the case I would think the ECM was already on its way out. The cost to get an additional 50HP is around $600 I'm told (Dealer pricing).

You can upgrade to any HP within the engine "family" (meaning if you engine is a family C engine you can only upgrade within that group/range. So if you are in family "C" the max HP is 330. If your in family "E" you can go to 350HP.

I've head some of the chassis builders speced the radiator size very close to minimum, so when the engines were pushed up to 350 there were some overheating issues rear pushers.

bump! any update to this? did you have it done?

I have a 2007 330HP C7, and am considering this re-flash. Also, does anyone have a link to the different torque curve comparisons?

It is shown in the photo above. What engine "family" are you in?

I assume family "E" since you have a 330HP now and that's the only family with an upgrade option (to 350 HP). There is no torque change.

You would be paying $500 to $600 to get a 20 HP increase. I'm not even sure you would notice the increase.

I did not end up doing the flash. I have driven to Cali and Back twice and had no issues with the hills towing my trailer.

For those who think it is about the HP increase - my view is about the improved Torque curve. The higher torque at 2k rpm (800 vs 770) is why i wanted to flash.

I have attached the C7 data sheet

Thank you for that! I am definitely interested in the torque curve being improved.

I contacted my local CAT dealer, and they said $500 for the re-flash. and from doing some more digging online, it looks like there was a 360HP and 925lb/torque option for the C7.

I will most likely be getting this done in the next week or two and will update this thread. Hoping they can do the 360/925 flash.... if not, the 350hp flash greatly improves the torque curve.

my motor is in a 2007 discovery, which was the most recent version of the C7........wish me luck

If I remember correctly the 360hp 925 torque was for emergency vehicles/fire truck. But good luck. Let us know what you find out. Safe Travels

Okay so I made it in today. They said they were not able to do the 360/925 rerate for me, but I did do the 350 rate. It could be the placebo effect, but I want to say it did feel a bit more peppy on the drive home. I will be able to tell in the next few days when we take our trip, towing the trailer. Hopefully that flatter torque curve and 20 more ponies helps on the grades.

I also had them switch me to latch mode for the engine brake, I can already tell that I will really like that.

How would I know what range/group I fall under by engine serial? That chart did t show serials. I'm kal47050. Would really like 350 as it's got a nice torque range, but I'm. Guessing mine can only go to 330. Would going route of mp8 tuner be better?
