Just bought a 95 motor home that has this engine. 169,000 miles . Any thought on this model and year? We've driven it, seems to have lots of power. I can see speeding tickets in my future

I also have the CAT 3116 engine in my RV. This engine was used in school buses by the GA-zillions. It's considered a throw away engine since it does not have the cast sleeves but if it was cared for you have lots of miles and years ahead.

Good engine. Use good quality oil and filters. ( i like Cat oil and filters) due not allow anyone prefill fuel filters. And change that air filter regularly.
Keep in mind that this engine is not a throw away engine. It just does not have the remove able cyl sleeves. During engine rebuild with the cyls replaced as needed, CAT provides cyl sleeves for this cyl block. For any that is installed, the engine would have to be removed and completely disassembled for machining. Take care, Nurse Diesel.
Hoping it never needs a rebuild I'm guessing I should have the oil tested. Was told it just been changed, Does it make sense to add anti gel to the fuel year round? Past owner claims it give a little extra lube,
I believe that it is a waste of $ myself. Lubisity is added to diesel already. Your engine has shown resistance to injector seizures through time. This engine has a good reputation but, do not have anyone adjust the overhead or governor unless it's a CAT dealer. This engine has longevity. One area that I am thinking of now is your water pump belt and idler pulley. They often don't get good attention. That's all for now, Nurse Diesel.
