Hi everybody.
I am having problems with overheating my Cat 330 when I am climbing any steep road. I already cleaned and inspected the cooling system and it seems to be in good working condition. I own a 2004 friendship g7, 42' with a cat 330 and 40KM. I town a lexus gx470 and the rig is very well load. I am thinking in buying a chip to increase the power in order to solve this problem. The manufactor of the chip seems very confident but I will like to hear from somebody that is using the chip or knows aboput them.
I will higlhy apreciate any input. You can also contact me at andres@wisdomwands.com.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Andres.

It seems to me the chip would make it run even hotter. It would be better to address your cooling system issue.
I'd be interested in seeing replies from anyone who has added a chip, though.

Andres, I have a 350 Cat 06 and here is what I did to increase performance.

The only thing I did was to remove the original muffler and install a freer-flowing muffler. Everything else is stock.

The new muffler I installed is a Aero Exhaust Muffler 5 inch.

What you will notice with the new muffler is an increase in sound on acceleration. At cruising, you will not notice any difference at all. With the exhaust brake on, it will be asmoother operation; no sound either.

Here is the website from where I purchased the muffler:

www.aeroexhaust.com/five_inch_muffler_5050xl.html

If you do order, make sure it has a resonator in it.

Adding a free-flowing muffler should be all you need to do. There is a big performance and torque increase; less down-shifting on hills.

I hope this will help you and other interested persons looking for increased performance.

Blaine, did the muffler give you a noticable increase in performance ? How about the fuel economy ?

Jestme, Yes you will notice a difference in performance, power and torque and, of course, fuel economy. On fuel economy, you can expect .5 in mpg.

It will make your turbo-charger run cooler with less heat build-up in that area. Also your air filter indicator will read lower.

Thanks Joe for your input, I checked again with another CAT especialist and they are also suspecting that the chip may increase the temperature instead of decreasing it.
Blaine, thanks a lot for the muffler information, it seems a good affordable and reliable solution.
I will apreciate any other input regarding this topic.
Thanks again to you all.

Blaine - I only have a 36' DP with no heat problem but was very interested in your muffler suggestion. I went to the web site you listed for the muffler but listing under vehicles showed only diesel pickups, did you have any problems adjusting this muffler into the original muffler location? Did you install it yourself or have a muffler shop do it? I have a 330 HP C7 Cat, is there any problems to anticipate or prepare for? Thanks for all your help.

If you look at the specs for the 5050XL it states application is for Trucks, Semi-Trucks and RV's. I just ordered one for my C9.

Wagonmaster 2:

On the installation, you are going to need a 90 degree elbow and you are going to have to modify your brackets so the muffler will hang properly. If you are not too familiar with this process, a good muffler should be able to do it in no time. It is not that difficult.

Richard:

Food for thought.

Your C-9 with the extra power and torque that you will get - I would question whether your Allison transmission can handle it.

Steve, yes I do all my own repairs/upgrades, with in reason and my own tools. Major work I let the shops do. I removed the stock muffler and tail pipe this afternoon. Assembled the new muffler with tail pipe and took measurements for the brackets and my 90 deg el. I will finish tomorrow after work. I have a short trip the weekend of Nov 8.....and the test begins.
Fuel droped here again today..Gas-$2.84..D-$3.64

Steve, congrats on the Alcoa wheels from Work Horse rally. I traded my W22 Pace Arrow in june for this Rev so did not attend rally.
