Upon returning from a 2000 mile trip in my 09 Safari with a Cat C-9, the check engine light came on a couple hundred miles from home. No derate but the light stayed on the rest of the way home. I had noticed that the regen light was staying on longer and coming on more often. I took it to Mustang Cat in Houston and they determined that the DPF filter was plugged. They injected 2 bottles of ARD head cleaner and forced it into regen. Upon doing this all was well once again. My issue was that the Cat manual mentions nothing about this maintenance item. Mustang Cat said there was a techincal service bulletin that was issue recommending cleaning the filter every 200-250 hrs. They even said they are recommending doing it every oil change. You can purchase the cleaner through a Cat dealer and it has detailed instructions on how to perform the cleaning.

Do you have a copy of this bulletin? Having to clean the DPF every 250 hours or so seems excessive. The regen is suppose to clean the DPF. Also, the RV engines don't have a user forced regen procedure. That too would be great to see.
