I have a friend that has a 2007 Journey Cat C7 350hp engine. He has been getting bad power loses when hard eccelerating occurs. He took it to a Cat/FL dealer and they checked it all out and told him his Turbo is blown......Now this coach only has 9k miles on it. The tech that worked on his coach told him to expect it to happen again. The turbo's are not that good.

Has anyone else had or know of anyone that has had a blown turbo on a Cat C7 engine?

Sure would be nice to know a bit more detail as to what was 'blown'. Wondering if the wheel edges/tips are shattered or if it was a bearing failure.

Anything on the intake side of the turbo is going in the motor so must be bearings or exhaust side of turbo.

I'll see my friend this week-end and I'll ask him what was wrong with it.

I had over 50K on my o4 C7 Cat 350 and it was still going strong when I traded it in. I have never heard anything about bad turbos. I was also a member of the Cat RV club and never heard anyone complain there. I would think this would be covered under warranty.

Brian,
My friend is kind of questioning what the tech told him. The turbo replacement was covered under warranty.......

You might want to go over to rv.net and send a personal message to Brett Wolfe
(Wolfe10) he has about them most knowledge regarding Cat engines that you will find on the net.

Where was your friend having the work done. It would be hard to believe that it was a CAT service center. There is only one place I would trust for that kind of work and that is the CAT service in Meridian, Idaho.

Have over 50,000 on mine and have not had a problem. Still getting good boost.

The last Cat engine I had blew turbo. Just under 10,000.00 to repair it because it blew oil into system and they had to cut back of coach to pull part of cooling system and flush the whole system. What a mess and expense.

Tom,
My friend lives in NH. He went to a FL/Cat dealership there in Londonderry, NH. FL of NH ......

I talked to him this morning and I asked about the turbo failure. He said they never told him what failed on it.

Hello everyone, An Update !

My friend called me this morning and told me he called the CAT Dealer this morning and discussed the failure of the turbo with them. He was informed that the waste gate, exhaust side, froze up! Thus Ka-Boom ! He asked what could cause that to happen? They told him too much down tme and not being used enough,.....Moisture etc.caused the problem !

The turbo on my C-7 blew up as a result of the slobber tube being pinched close.

On the way out of a fuel station the back end dragged slightly. The rubber slobber tube got pinched and the resulting back pressure blew the seals in the turbo. As well as replacing the turbo, the Freightliner dealer shortened the slobber hose slightly and secured it to the hitch frame.

In my 2005 Journey with a 350 CAT the turbo was replaced under warranty. Now in my 2006 Vectra with the same engine I just got it back last week from freightliner and lo and behold another new turbo put in that one......wonder if CAT has an issue with these engines blowing turbo's?????
