Just finished doing mine at 49K. Almost impossible to tell if they were off or not. In order to get the gauge in it was necessary to back off the adjustment then put the gauge in and tighten.

It sounds like they were to tight If the gauge was not going In, you had to losen the adjuster In order to get the gauge In, would you agree?

I didn't spend a lot of time trying to get a gauge in but I went way down below specs just to try on a couple of the valves with no luck. I did not use go/no go gauges. The area to insert the gauge is difficult to get to plus you need to smack the adjusting screw down with a rubber mallet in order to get everything to seat correctly. I was in e-mail contact with someone else who had already done this and he said he had the same problem.

I had mine adjusted last fall at 40,387 miles and afterward the tech told me they were too tight.
