Cat c9

I am considering purchase of a 2008 Beaver Contessa with a cat c9 425hp engine. Are there any particular issues with this engine that I should be aware of? I know all engines can have problems, just concerned about any known issues.
Thanks, Roland

We are the second owners of our 2005 Beaver Patriot Thunder-C13, 525 hp. The original owner included all his service records with the sale. I found that soon after deliver (and under warranty) the radiator was replaced. I guess they had a batch of aluminum radiators that were not holding up. Not a recall, his radiator failed in use. Yours is likley a 2007 year Cat engine. I think 2007 was the first year for 'smog' controlled diesels.

rfs15od48, I have a '05 Beaver with the C-9. I bought is used, in '15 made one trip to AZ. and back to MI. with it. Seems like a good engine, it blew a clamp on sleeve between the turbo and the CAC, that gave me cause for concern, it also runs very hot on the EG temps, in the mountains. Out on the flats it's runs very well, not very stingy on fuel, but not very many in this class are.

Like Tony, my C9 has been an excellent engine with no major problems and I have 90,000 miles on it. Very strong, very dependable.

I have a 2005 patriot with a C-9. Runs strong. Got it last May with 58000 miles now. Love it. The pacbrake got me stranded once but just ordered the upgrade PRXB C40203.

I had a C9 in my prior coach. Strong engine, @400HP was a bit underpowered on some of the passes in Oregon, but not bad.

My situation is a little different ..... C9 in a FL M2 pulling a 5th wheel. Mine is a 2006 pre-emissions motor and it will pull all day long without any issues. I am a bit anal about maintenance on my vehicles, but this has been a good strong motor requiring only routine maintenance
