What is the outcome of your engine? Is it running or still in the shop? As been a long time I would assume its probably ready.

Yes it is done. I picked it up a few weeks back. A complete rebuild from the harmonic balancer to the flexplate, New Block, Injectors ECM,Turbo,Starter etc... Caterpillar extended their Overhaul Protection Plan at no charge for 36 months. I am waiting to hear from them on the Core Charge adjustment. These charges ($4k +) were not covered by the extended warranty company. The repair shop (Omaha Truck Center) did a great job. The Coach is at Bradd and Hall in Elkhart for a major interior upfit. Really looking forward to getting it back !!

Yep, it's the Moss-Magnusson act. If they require that only their approved product be used then they have to provide it free of charge. But you'll probably have to hire a lawyer to get it!

I may be off base, But I would like to share this Information With you all... We did a lot of testing . Of engines And Exhust Temps. , And what heat does to them... And the heat results would not show up for a long time after the damage was done... The worst thing that could be done was to run an engine with the Exhust/jake brake on( altho it will be off while theacc;is on, it will kick in when reliesed)) all the time; And you pull a Long hard grade come up over the top go down the grade the the brake kicks in trapping all that heat in the engine.. We have had pyros. in the Exhust And you would NOT believe the temp, build up.in the engine. That is the reson truckers stop and let the engine Cool down on top of the pull;;. . The bottom line is The damage caused to the engine May not show up for a long time. But it is there.. So stop after a long pull and cool the engine.. It will serve you well, If you take care of it.. Life is good

So what caused the engine to blow up? Did they determine what the original problem was?

Cummins says, in writing, that no cool down is required unless after a long pull you shut the engine down immediately, even going down an off ramp is enough cool down time.

Wrist pin failure in #5. ECM was clean, no indication of an issue. Bad Karma I guess...
