Cat engine with one fuel filter

I'm wondering if those of you who have a Cat engine with only one fuel filter have any fuel problems. Is the single 2 micron filter good for the 11K recommended? To me it seems I start getting a little engine surge after 5-6000 miles which I tend to think is fuel related. I've put about 18K miles on this coach in less than a year and most often get fuel at a truck stop or other high volumn fuel stop. I have not used any of the additives that may or may not help.
Any thoughts or comments?
Bob

We're at 74,000 miles with no issues of which I am aware. I've considered adding a second fuel filter. I change the filter every year but we usually don't log more than 6K miles annually.

I do add some Power Service additive every 2nd or 3rd fill. Not sure it really does anything but the CAT runs very well.

I have the filter changed once a year with 10K miles or more. No problems and I have never put in an additive. I only fuel at Flying Js or Loves.

I change mine every 5000 miles just to be on the safe side....I also carry spares and a small amount of diesel fuel just in case....On my rig (02 Horizon 39QD) it is easy to change and I can do it in 15 minutes...I also dont let the fuel level get below 1/3 even though the pickup is a few inches off the bottom, you can still get some crap if it gets too low......Also the Freightliner Part # for the 2 micron filter is S32FRT03...

The previous owner of my coach kept GREAT maintenance records. The first couple of years he changed the filter every year, around 8-10k per year. It had been changed about 5k before I purchased the coach. In less than 300 miles I plugged up my first filter. I had it changed at a Freightliner place. It was plugged enough that I could not maintain speed on a FL interstate. I've put 5k on the coach and just had the filter changed again. This time I noticed the drop in performance, but was able to have the filter changed before the performance drop was as severe.

This time the place that changed the filter, a local heavy truck/tractor repair shop, did a biocide shock treatment and told me to prepare myself for a lot of filter changes. They also told me to keep adding biocide at future fill-ups.

I buy fuel only at truck stops that do a lot of business and I have kept the tank topped off during periods that the coach was parked for extended periods.
