ARLINGTON, Va. -- Caterpillar Inc., which exited the U.S. on-highway vehicle market several years ago, has no intention of directly re-entering that niche, its chief executive officer said, Transport Topics reported.

Doug Oberhelman, Caterpillar’s CEO and chairman, offered an emphatic “No!” when asked if the construction equipment and engine maker had any intentions of getting back into the domestic market for on-highway vehicles.

Oberhelman spoke at a press conference in Las Vegas Wednesday at the ConExpo-Con/Agg construction and equipment exhibition show. He stated the company will rely on its Navistar partnership to produce on-highway products in America.

Both Navistar and Caterpillar are engaged in a joint venture to produce commercial vehicles in overseas markets, Transport Topics reported.

Well Driver,,,,,that is bad news. Can't blame them, however.

I guess I will have to pull a engine out of a CAT Earth-mover and install it in my Motor Home.

It's really a shame - the CAT engine in our diesel pusher was sweeeet. Pulled up hills without missing a beat, and we were getting right around 10 mpg (on a 36' coach).

The "Iron" of an engine as it was described to be is the meat that makes an engine what it is. The iron that is delivered to the MaxxForce Engine Group is the engine short block if you will of the fabulous CAT15 or the C15. This engine when it ships will be known as a MaxxForce15.

Currently MaxxForce is making their own iron for the 7 the 10 and 13.

The synergy between CAT and Navistar is in my opinion a great business arrangement. The CAT branded trucks are made by Navistar which helps drive their sales and meanwhile on the other side of the planet, Navistar is selling International branded trucks and tractors in market previously unreachable at established CAT dealers.

Sharing resources and making business streamlined and profitable is a pretty good model I expect. No doubt we will see more of these types of ventures in a global market that seems to be shrinking everyday. There only exists a slight blur out the window when one goes from one side of the pond to the next.
