Caterpillar Service Shop Recommendation
In searching this forum I did not find a thread dedicated to Caterpillar service shop recommendations. When we bought our CAT C-12 powered coach I was concerned about finding a good shop that was willing to work on motor homes. Having owned two Cummins powered coaches, I was familiar and satisfied with their Coach Care service. As it turns out, I needn't have worried.
Karen, Bob, Jason, and the crew at Peterson CAT in Eugene, Oregon, did a great job getting the work done in a timely, professional, and cost-efficient manner.
We went in for a valve lash adjustment, radiator fan duty cycle (always on) problem, a coolant check, and an air dryer swap out. The valve lash adjustment turned out to be a real hassle for the techs due to the way the bed deck above the engine is installed. They did not charge for the extra time it took to develop a workaround to get to the engine valve covers. Nor did they complain about the extra effort required. You can easily understand why some shops avoid working on motor homes.
The valve lash adjustment price quoted before work started and billed at the exact same amount - $500.00. Actually, that's a good deal when you consider that a lube-oil-filter (one fuel, one oil filter - both CAT brand) change is included.
Coolant issue was resolved.
Air dryer was swapped and they were uncomplainingly willing to use the unit that I brought. (Bendix AD-IP rebuilt by Bendix - part number 109477X)
Fan problem was trouble shot down to the Sauer-Danfoss coolant temperature sensor (#1090173) which was not available in a reasonable amount of time due to its age and general availability. They come from England now. Not Peterson's problem. They happily furnished the correct part number and I found one in a local motor home service shop.
They do not have full hookups but you can camp in the parking lot with a 20 amp shore cord.
Honest, professional work at a fair price by a personable, agreeable staff.
All in all it was a great experience.

Caterpiller Service Shop Recommendation
i have used Peterson's for all my mh engine work, and this has been my exact experience as well. I also buy all my filters from them at a great price. The only thing i would add is that when i did get my mh back it was left just as clean as dropped off and at the time promised.
great knowledgeable people.

I bought a few things from Peterson's in San Leandro, CA.. I had issues getting thermostat gasket to stop leaking, the parts person called up a mechanic and I talked to him probably 15 minutes. Very nice people. And the parts lady GAVE ME the gasket, and a partially used can of adhesive for the gasket. I couldn't believe it.!

That's good to know since Holt CAT in San Antonio sort of makes you feel as if they're doing you a favor to work on your MH

I took my coach to Holt in Fort Worth for an oil fuel and air filter. The air filter was not changed and I developed a oil leak that wasn't there before I dropped it off. I found the leak after a lot of under the engine time on the three corner bolts on the access panel on the block right next to the filter. Can't say it was done intentionally but after 30 years in Law enforcement I don't believe in coincidences like that. I called about the the air filter and leak and got a non-committal response from the service manager. Haven't been back!

My only dealing with Holt Cat in San Antonio was for the prepurchase inspection on my '05 Discovery. They brought a mobile truck and did the work quickly. I am still waiting on my oil analysis (Speedco oil analysis looked great, though).

If anyone lives in Nevada, or close to Sparks or Henderson, the Cashman CAT(which covers Nevada) is a great place to deal with. I've had work done on my C7 at both locations and am very impressed with their attitude, service and work. The Sparks location had to replace my HEUI pump and the Henderson location had to replace a fuel injector.

When I used Holt a couple of times for service they said they would only notify me if the oil analysis showed problems.
