Changing serpentine belt.

I just picked up my rig after having the exhaust manifold leak fixed and it was pointed out that I am in need of a new serpentine belt. I was quoted an hour plus the belt. I can get the belt here locally and have both a 1/2" ratchett and breaker bar and a side radiator. How much work is it to change it myself. I have done them on my 454 "burb and on my '01 PSD Excursion. (man,I wish I had that baby back.)

I suggest to go for it!! Take a pix first to insure belt routing.

On mine it takes longer to remove the floor and the metal cover than it does to actually change the belt. Since you have done it on other vehicles you can do it on the CAT>

I changed mine in about 1 minute and check it every time I check the oil. If the old one is bad but still useable keep it with you, you never know when you may need it.

The hardest part of changing mine was the separate alternator V-belt. It had to come off first, so I replaced it at the same time.

Use a breaker bar on the tensioner.

Hardest part of changing your serpentine belt is making sure you have it on correctly. I have a plaque in the engine compartment showing the correct routing. That said it is easy to do.

Done and done. The hardest thing was getting the bolts on the small belt loosened and then trying to figger out how to get that belt off. Not... I know that there is some secret to changing that one,but it didn't get done as I couldn't get it off past the tensioner for the serpentine belt. I checked it out and decided that it looked really good.Changing the serpentine belt itself was a piece of cake. Getting it off was simple and the only difficult part was getting it to fit past a couple of pulleys and the MH frame. The shop wanted a minimum of an hour and over $100 for the two belts. The two of them cost me $75 total. I saved enuff money to buy the E brake sensor switch so that I don't have to put up with the ping going down the road.
