Cleaning the Cat?

What do you use to clean the engine? What should I avoid getting wet when rinsing it off?

I use Simple Green and rinse with hot water. Try to keep it off the electronics and connectors. A little water on them doesn't seem to hurt.

I use Oil Eater for the really dirty stuff and simple green for the rest. Keep the electrical dry as much as posible no problems in 7 yrs cleaning twice a year.

Same here. After the engine has cooled I spray it with Simple Green, let it set a few minutes and hose it off. I try not to flood the electrical connections, but a little spray won't hurt them.

This is a little late but here goes. For years I have used paint thinner. It dissolves all the caked on oil an dirt and it dries without leaving a trace, unlike water. You can use it in a garden sprayer of a siphon sprayer. The best part is it will not hurt any of the electric stuff on either a diesel or gas engine and it is not very flammable. In 40 years I have never had a problem and when it dries on the driveway (concrete) it just leaves a pile of dry dirt.

ninos, You really need a little pressure behind it. Use a garden sprayer that you can pump up. Spray the Paint Thinner on, let it soak then wash off the dissolved crud with the thinner in the garden sprayer. I don't use any water to rinse. I don't want water in any sensative parts. The stuff I use says Paint Thinner on the label and when it evaporates it will leave the parts or engine that you are cleaning, dry. Don't do it on an asphalt driveway, concrete is fine. Hose it off afterward or the wife will be more involved than you might want !!
